Directorate of Industrial Health & Safety, Madhya Pradesh



Apart from the Factory Act 1948, the Directorate of Industrial Health and Safety working under the Labour Commissioner, is responsible for enforcement of Payment of Wages Act 1936, Maternity Benefits Act 1961, Manufacturing, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules 1989, and Chemical Accidents (Emergency Plan, The responsibilities prescribed under the Preparedness and Response) Rules, 1996. Proceedings under the Workmen's Compensation Act are mainly taken by the Commissioner, Workmen's Compensation, i.e. Labour Court. The officers of the Directorate discharge their responsibilities as advisors. The Industrial Health and Safety Section is under the charge of the Director. For health and safety related work, offices of three zonal Joint Directors (in Bhopal, Indore and headquarters Indore) and eleven Divisional Deputy Directors, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Khandwa, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Satna, Gwalior, headquarters Indore, Bina (district Sagar), Singrauli are functioning under him. Apart from this, an Industrial Hygine Laboratory is established at Indore under a Deputy Director.
